Mukulima

Mukulima connects Bridge For Change’s agriculture and livelihoods work with the knowledge, effort and experience already present in farming communities.

Agriculture & livelihoods Community-led approach Bridge For Change project
Why this work matters

Responding to a practical community need.

Farmers and farming households can face unpredictable weather, rising input costs, limited market access and gaps in practical information. These challenges affect both household income and food security.

Mukulima is built around strengthening farmer capability rather than replacing local knowledge. The project creates space for practical learning, community exchange and stronger links to resources, opportunities and markets.

Across the project, our emphasis is on participation, practical action, local partnerships and learning. These principles help ensure the work remains relevant to the people it is intended to support.

Project priorities

What the initiative seeks to strengthen.

The project brings together several connected areas of action rather than treating the challenge as a single issue.

01

Farmer knowledge

Strengthening practical production and farm-management capability.

↗
02

Resilience

Helping households respond more effectively to environmental and economic shocks.

↗
03

Food security

Connecting farming livelihoods with more reliable household food availability.

↗
04

Market awareness

Supporting farmers to think about buyers, value chains and opportunities beyond production.

↗
05

Peer learning

Encouraging farmers to share experience and useful practices with one another.

↗
06

Livelihood opportunity

Strengthening agriculture as a source of income, dignity and household stability.

↗
Understanding progress

Looking beyond activities to meaningful change.

We use community feedback and project evidence to understand what is changing, where barriers remain and what the initiative should strengthen next.

01
Farmer capabilityWhether participants strengthen knowledge and confidence in farm decision-making.
02
Production resilienceWhether households are better able to adapt to changing conditions.
03
Market connectionWhether farmers have stronger links to buyers, information or value-chain opportunities.
04
Household securityWhether farming contributes more reliably to food and income.
Community participation

Local knowledge is part of the project.

Bridge For Change works with communities as partners in implementation and learning, not simply as recipients of support.

Dialogue, feedback and local relationships help us understand whether the project is relevant, accessible and responsive to the realities people face. This also strengthens ownership and helps identify what can be sustained over time.
